Uncompromising standards.
At Cyclesense we have a strict checklist when deciding whether to stock any children's bike. The bikes must be:
- Lightweight
- Designed for children
- Well made and built to last
These things might sound obvious - but they are still far from a given in the world of kids' bikes.
A lot of the time now - even from major bike brands - we see bikes which are lightweight and look good on a spec sheet, but when we see them in the flesh we soon realise that the finer details are compromised. Perhaps the brake levers are too far from the handlebars for smaller hands, or the distance between the cranks (known as q-factor) will be too large for the sit bones of a child, or cheap materials will have been used in key areas to save costs and cut corners to make a bike look good value on paper. We could go on.
Rest assured that whether purchasing a kids' bike with us online or in-store, we've already looked at the finer details for you to ensure you get a bike that's both fun and easy to ride for your child.
Lightweight is so much better.
The single most important thing to consider when purchasing a kids' bike is the weight of the bike.
Kids are only little, they're not very strong and they don't weigh much themselves. Imagine for a moment that you had to ride a bike that weighs even half as much as you do - it would be hard work at best to even get it moving. We should not ask children to do the same and think that they're going to have a good and enjoyable experience - a 20kg child riding a 10kg+ bike is not going to have as much fun as they could.
It's really quite simple - lightweight kids' bikes are more fun and will give your child the best possible start to their experiences of cycling - a healthy, fun and useful activity for their life ahead.
