ABOUT US
Cyclesense was born in 1991, fulfilling the childhood dream of David Stainthorpe. Dave had always wanted a bike shop, as a child he used to take bikes apart, swap bits and sell them to his friends. Slowly, but surely, Dave built the business up starting in his garage and trading on Dewsbury Market with just £600 worth of stock.
By 1995 Cyclesense had become quite well established. Its reputation built on value and service. It was time to move to bigger premises.
Cyclesense then moved to Tadcaster, the home of Samuel Smiths, John Smiths and Coors breweries.
The shop was 500sqft and at the time had more than enough room for Dave.
Business blossomed in Tadcaster and soon Paul (Dave’s oldest) joined the business. The time soon came to hire a full time mechanic so Ian joined the team.
Cyclesense moved to its current location on the High Street in 2001. To date, Cyclesense is the biggest independent retailer in Tadcaster, with 3000sqft of sales area and a large (free) car park at the rear of the shop.
All Dave’s hard work has recently been rewarded in the form of a trophy. Cyclesense entered the Selby Business Awards and won the Best Established Business Award 2004.
At Cyclesense we stock a tremendous range of bikes that often astounds visitors to the shop. There really is a bike to suit all riders at Cyclesense.
Mountain, Road, Sports-Hybrids, Commuting, Touring, Tandems, BMX, Trials, Trikes, Unicycles and all sizes of children’s bikes including the Exclusive Likeabike. We even have
a new Penny Farthing in stock.
Cyclesense is a real family business. Dave (dad) is the boss, his wife Sue (mum) looks after the clothing department and Paul is the Sales Director.
John (that’s me) , I look after all aspects of the Internet and also co-ordinate Likeabike UK. As a family we are all passionate about cycling and this reflects on how we run the shop. I commute to work everyday no matter what the weather is doing (I have been seen with ice settling on my Altura Dryline Overtrousers)!
Ian Kirby who is an excellent mechanic is in charge of all the new builds. Ian has been with Cyclesense for over 6years and is a fully trained Cytech mechanic. Quite often Ian commutes to work on his bike 20 miles each way and he enjoys cycling on his days off.p]
Neil Stanford has joined us as a full time mechanic to work in our busy workshop. He is also Cytech trained and a keen cyclist. He takes part in rides/races all over the globe. His last race was in South Africa and he does the 3 peaks annually. Neil also likes to do 24 hour races and time trials and he has never had a mechanical failure on any of these rides ;-)
Tom has joined us as a full time mechanic. At only 19 years of age and already Cyctech trained, Tom is proving to be very good at repairs
At Cyclesense we strive to provide the best quality service there is and you can rest assured that we will try our hardest to ensure that you get what you need to make your cycling more enjoyable and rewarding.
Cyclesense has recently acquired a warehouse on Thorp Arch Industrial Estate. Cyclesense continues to grow year on year so we had to find somewhere for LIKEaBIKE uk and the mail order side of the business.
 New Warehouse

At the warehouse we have lots more storage space, a fantastic showroom, office and ample parking for customers.
The showroom allows us to showcase the full LIKEaBIKE range in all its glory. It also gives us space to display larger items such as adults and childrens tricycles something which is difficult at Tadcaster in the showroom. All our electric bikes are now on diplay in Thorp Arch. Our electric bike range covers models from Urban Mover, Estelle and Koga Miyata. There is much more room for trying out the bikes in and around the warehouse which will make for a much more pleasurable buying experience. Also at the warehouse are the top notch Puky childrens bikes and Go Karts.
Thorp Arch estate is 2 miles from the A1 so is very easy to get to
Thorp Arch Estate was an ammunition factory during the world war and has a war time feel to it which is really different to normal industrial estates and it is set in a nice country setting close to the Market town of Wetherby.
Mission Tricycles built and ready to try out
